Are our t-shirts ethically made?
It's an important and interesting question - is the vegan t-shirt you're buying / wearing even vegan? What about the treatment of workers and environmental impact? The good news is all Boss Vegan t-shirts are fully vegan, they contain no animal products in either the fabric or the inks, and the suppliers, printers and manufacturers we work with are among the most ethical in the industry.
Our t-shirts are 100% vegan
The fabrics used in all our t-shirts are 100% vegan. Our t-shirts are either 100% cotton (solid colors) or are cotton polyester blends (heather colors), both contain no animal products whatsoever.
We use 100% vegan, water-based inks made by Kornit. Our inks are also Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, this means the inks used are tested on an ongoing basis to establish that they meet strict criteria for environmental safety. You can learn more about the inks we use at the Kornit website.
Our suppliers are ethically and environmentally certified
We get our t-shirts from two different manufacturers, the men's style come from Bella+Canvas, the women's are made by Gildan and sold under the brand Anvil.
Both these manufacturers are accredited by numerous manufacturing watchdog organisations, the most well known of which is Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP). This means they abide by certain workplace, environmental and ethical standards in their manufacturing processes. The WRAP website describes their certification as being based on:
...Generally accepted international workplace standards, local laws and workplace regulations, and include the spirit or language of relevant conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO). The Principles encompass human resources management, health and safety, environmental practices, and legal compliance including import/export and customs compliance and security standards.
The WRAP Certification Program’s objective is to independently monitor and certify compliance with these standards, to ensure that sewn products are being produced under lawful, humane and ethical conditions. Participating facilities voluntarily commit to ensuring that their manufacturing practices will meet these standards, and further commit to passing along, on their part, the expectation that their contractors and suppliers likewise comply with these standards.
To receive WRAP certification suppliers must adhere to 12 key principles, these are:
1. Compliance with Laws and Workplace Regulations
2. Prohibition on forced labor
3. Prohibition of child labor
4. Prohibition of harassment or abuse
5. Compensation and benefits
6. Hours of work
7. Prohibition of discrimination
8. Health and safety
9. Freedom of association and collective bargaining
11. Customs compliance
Both our t-shirt suppliers take environmental concerns seriously
